What Exeter might lack in sporting history it makes up for in first class facilities and top-class nightlife. The first sporting contests in Exeter date back to Roman times, which is about as long ago as Exeter City F.C.’s last decent cup run.
Thanks to its proximity to miles of prehistoric coastline, you'll be able to take the team tour out to sea with ribbing or dive in to the bracing sea waters with a day of coasteering. If you'd rather stick to dry land, there's also high speed go karting for the squad to battle it out on the race circuit rather than the pitch. Speak to our team about kicking off your own sports tour.
There's 5-a-side and full team football, hockey and rugby to be played at one of our great Exeter sport centres. If you're up for something a bit different though, seek out our bubble football and foot golf activities for insane twists on great classics; it'll be nothing like training.
If you've ever wondered what it's like to jump off a cliff, Teams on Tour can arrange for you to find out with our nerve jangling sessions of cliff jumping and coasteering. There's clay pigeon shooting to be tried too; a perfect opportunity to test the team's off the ball accuracy. Contact us today for a no hassle quote.
Stadium: Sandy Park
With sporting honours dating all the way back to 1890, when Exeter Rugby Club (now renamed the ‘Exeter Chiefs') won the Devon Cup, there's a reason that this Rugby Union club is currently playing in the top tier of English rugby union, the Aviva Premiership. The club has gone from strength to strength following their move to the much larger Sandy Park ground, which they regularly manage to fill with 9,000 or more fans. This triumphant rise was marked by the club's first major trophy win in 2014, when they beat Northampton Saints in the Anglo-Welsh Cup 15-8.
Stadium: St James Park
One of the few English football clubs owned by the club's supporters to stably remain in the English Football League system, Exeter City (originally founded as St Sidwell's United) even managed a short stint in League One from the 2009-10 season to their relegation in 2010. Among the club's notable supporters are Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, comedian Ade Edmondson and singer Joss Stone. Nicknamed “The Grecians”, Exeter City have twice made it into the FA Cup quarter finals.
Exeter is the birthplace and career starting point of a number of football and rugby stars, old and new. Swansea City AFC's Exeter born Matt Grimes began his football career with Exeter City in League Two, being sold in 2013 for a reported £1.75 million after being named in the League Two PFA Team of the Year. Additionally, former Arsenal and England player Cliff Bastin was originally scouted from Exeter City before becoming a vital part of a dominant 1930s Arsenal side.
As a key UK university city, Exeter isn't lacking in nightlife to help everyone celebrate or forget about last season's results. Teams on Tour can sort your whole squad out with guest list entry into some of Exeter's top nightclubs or arrange for a trip to a quality Exeter casino if that's more your flavour. Exeter is also considered the foodie capital of Devon, making a restaurant or bar trip essential.
