Although the modern branch of Marbella's biggest football team was only founded in 2013, it can trace its roots back to the formation of CA Marbella in 1947. The club currently plays in the fourth group of the third tier of Spanish football, the Segunda Division B. Having reached Segunda Division B in 2003, the club has remained in this level of football, playing regularly along the reserve teams of Spain's biggest clubs like FC Barcelona Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
The club have been champions of the fourth tier of Spanish football, the Tercera Division twice in their history but have no other honours to their name, though they have participated in the prestigious Copa del Rey on three separate occasions.
While Marbella has produced no notable athletes, it has brought a number of sporting stars to its luxurious settings, including Arsenal's Santi Cazorla, who was born in Llanera in the north of Spain. One of Spain's best current footballers and a highly lauded and decorated attacking midfielder, Santi Cazorla has been most effective playing for Arsenal over the past three seasons, during which time he has scored 27 goals, won two FA Cup finals and an FA Community Shield as well as an Arsenal Player of the Season award.
It's at night when Marbella really comes alive, with a packed events calendar and a bucket load of nightclubs, bars, restaurants and shows packed into every venue, it's no wonder Marbella attracts the jet set. Teams on Tour can arrange for you to take an action packed booze cruise before stopping off for guest list entry at one of Marbella's many buzzing nightclubs.
